Black Star Canyon trail located in eastern Orange County, was a fun hike picked by James on Oct 19, I was too naive to even think there will be some river crossing involved in mid October... nah!
this is a 7+ miles hike with fun bouldering at the last 2, just expect the first part of the trek to be very flat and extremely boring that I didn't even bother to post any photo... so let's fast forward!
the day and time we visited here was full of tiny flies, they will fallow you, attack your ears, go into your mouth

keep in mind even though this place is listed as a dog friendly hike, I think its going to be hard for some inexperienced or smaller dogs because of the boulders you need to scale

although Actaeas is a great athlete, he still needed some helps sometimes, this hike will be challenging for people who are not used to bouldering or climbing too
you would definitely be able to do all of this by yourself if you were bigger aren't you?
took us about 3 hours to get to this "waterfall", we probably picked the wrong timing to come, but since the temperature didn't kill us, I have no complain.
I personally love bouldering and actually climb 2-3 times a week, so the end part of black star canyon trail was literlity me entering Disneyland.
during the dry season, there was not much to see in that cave above me, just a pool of dead flies.
I did some research after we got home and realized there's a way up to the overlook, at the right hand side there should be a steep trail up that you can get to the top of waterfall.
Actaeas was doing pretty good, this itty bitty exercise did not even let him sweat.
I was pumped to get to the end, but walking back slowly drained my soul because of how boring it gets... flat all the way for miles :(
