few months ago in February(yeh... a while ago), we hiked in the Rustic Canyon of Santa Monica Mountain to visit an abandoned Nazi camp in one gloomy afternoon.
free street parking, this is a 4 miles hike with string of 500+ steps of satires down, look around, you will find several marks pointing the direction to the powerhouse along the way
there are several gates like this for the road down to the compound few minutes away from the trail head, so you have a lot of chances to get there
even if you miss those gates you can still get there by following this sign just like us
and this is how it looks like when there are 30 people trying to tell you the way and pointing in opposite directions at the same time
Murphy Ranch was built by American Nazi sympathizers and designed to serve as a hold out for fans of the Third Reich

Murphy Ranch was built by American Nazi sympathizers and designed to serve as a hold out for fans of the Third Reich
This complex was intended to be a self-sufficient community so sympathizers could use to keep them safe during the war until German rule had been established.
they built this campground with power station, concrete walls, machine shed, a massive water tank, growing food, gardens... etc
In December 1941 after Pearl Harbor, FBI agents raided the facility, swept in and arrested most of the Ranch’s residents.
By 1941 there were plans to build a four-story, 22-bedroom mansion with multiple dining rooms, indoor pool and several libraries as well but those plans apparently never executed

All that remain today is the power station, cylindrical tank, water tank, gardens and the collapsed machine shed, uninhabited and covered in graffiti
the powerhouse is smaller than I thought, maybe because the previous company I worked for has a huge graffiti outside of their main building, people always like to take photos at and post them on their Instagram, there are also have some small graffiti here and there in our work space, so I wasn't too impressed by the look of this powerhouse.
still think it's cool
still think it's cool
unfortunately this place was closed so we couldn't see what's inside
we didn't stay there for long, the downside of this area is trash, and I also worried about random rust metal shards will cut Actaeas' paws, definitely not a safe playground you want to let your kid or dog to run free.
people vising here should really pickup their own trash :(
It started to rain when we left
the steps are steep and narrow, it wasn't as bad as I imagined when we went back up
bad wolf like doctor who?
when we left, we saw something beyond amazing that I wish I had my camera on earlier
