We took this 4th of July weekend as an opportunity to head up north, due to Tiru torn her cranial cruciate ligament again,(similar to the ACL in humans) and there will be a surgery waiting for her after 4th (ouch :( ), couldn't do any hikes, so we planed our trip with all water activities, in this case she can just sit and chill :)
we spend our first day at Truckee River, it was similar with the one me and Actaeas went last Labor day at Russian River, and I truly think I did better job taking photos last time for some reasons... maybe the highly intense situations brings out great potential in me...
we got our rafts from Truckee River Raft, there are another one call Truckee River Rafting, I just picked the first one I saw on google, prices are similar.
because of the crowd, at first the Launchmaster did not want to give us 2 rafts, took us a while to explain how many kids we have and how much we wish them not to step on each other when we are on the river.
It is only 5 miles down river, usually takes 2 to 3 hours if you don't rest, unlike 9 miles rafting on Russian River last time took me about 5 hours to finish. Actaeas is experienced, he knew what to expect so Actaeas did not jump off the raft this time, but he accidently fell off when we hit the rock...

I couldn't stop laughing after I saw this photo on our way back to motel, I bet Actaeas wasn't happy that I did not warn him about the coming impact.
I used waterproof bags for both my camera and my phone, that's why you can see the My Little Pony kindda rainbowy effect in my photos, I have no intention to make Actaeas looks like Powerpuff Girls but I rater keep my cameras safe.
hey Actaeas, are you secretly a dachshund?
Tissue got into troubles few times because she couldn't resist ducks, Tissue just had to jump off and chase ducklings despite Ti mom almost shout her lungs out in public.
people even applauded when Ti mom finally caught her.
are you sure you will not fall when you sit like that? Actaeas just did, twice!
the most excited part was at the end, only lasted for 5 minutes
Tiru got most petting along the way, the river was a bit crowded that day, I think it's because of 4th of July big holiday and Truckee River is by Lake Tahoe, always packed, also the day me and Actaeas went to Russian River was at really bad timing (blue-green algae outbreak plus one dog got killed) that's why we only met few people on the way.
even though this trip wasn't as "peaceful" as last time, we still had a wonderful time, I can't tell which one is better because the experiences was totally different, when we were on Truckee River it's more like a carnival party, you meet happy human shooting water guns at you ;)
I can't explain how and why we planed our trip this way, the next day we were at Mammoth Lakes, but remember? I said water activities! so we got more!
we got our kayak and stand up paddle board from Mammoth Kayaks and Paddleboards, they don't have a store, you can find a big truck in the parking lot, they do take cards but it was cash only the day we got there, first come first serve, runs out pretty quickly so better get there early!
we saw no dogs on beach signs by the lake, I asked the rental guy and he told me it's okay to stay in the lake or go further back to the other side.
I've seen plenty people doing water activities with there pups on this lake, so I guess as long as you don't stay on the beach with your dog for sunbathing you will be fine, but as the rental guy says, it's on your risk, depends on how the ranger defines "no dogs on the beach".
this was my first time trying stand up paddling with Actaeas, I've been dreaming of learning how to surf for years, so I couldn't stop thinking of to try SUP with Actaeas first! wish I could tell you how happy I was! finally!
SUP isn't easy to control compares to rafting/ kayaking, when ever I stopped for few seconds for photos, me and Actaeas will got pushed back to the shore, maybe I did it all wrong, but the huge turning radius makes it also challenging to stay close with my friends. except all that, I believe beginners will quickly get the hang of it if you don't try to take master piece photos on the board.

I did not bring my camera with me that day, just an iphone, did not want to accidently drop it into the lake, worried about I will not be able to get it back :(
iphone
I forced myself to act like a good person, handed over the paddle board to others to play even though I didn't want to, I was scared they will unfriend me and will never ever go out with me again if I don't, being a human is hard.
Straggling switching from a board to kayak in the middle of the lake was fun too by the way.
Actaeas: is your mama gonna fall?
Tissue: don't know.
Actaeas: should we go help her?
Tissue: def not!!
Actaeas: but Tiru will get wet if she fall!
Tissue: than that will totally make my day!
time is up, I helped Ti mom to gather her kids while she was returning our rentals, when I was walking with dogs, some people saw Tinkerbell wearing an oversized life jacket
people: is she a sinker?
I laughed
